Assistant Grower

The Westbrook Assistant Grower will ensure crop management/care activities are performed as needed to ensure plants finish on time to Westbrook specifications. You will assist the Grower with crop decision making and interventions. Within the assigned section you will be responsible for the equipment, climate control and crop therein. You will work directly with the Grower, Head Grower, Inventory Control Coordinator and the Plant Operations Manager to fulfill these responsibilities.

• Using specialized expertise, grow assigned crop to Westbrook specifications, on time and within pest tolerances, as per crop schedule provided by the Production Team;
• Communicate regularly with the Grower to provide information re: crop applications, irrigation needs, crop movement, and timing;
• Collaborate with team to resolve growing issues and take required action to correct them;
• Grow crop within pest tolerances using standard IPM practices in conjunction with recommendations provided by Grower, Head Grower and consultants;
• Maintain all required documentation for internal and regulatory purposes, as determined by the production team;
• Ensure all growing activities in accordance with all relevant regulations (Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Labour, CFIA, etc.);
• Ensure all tasks including but not limited to order processing, crop planting, spacing, spraying, etc. are completed as required;
• Provide specifications and crop counts to Inventory Coordinator and/or Sales team as required;
• Record and report waste to the Grower, providing information on causes of waste;
• Work in compliance with company policies and procedures;
• Attend meetings related to role as required;
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Minimum 3 years’ greenhouse experience or horticulture diploma/degree and 1 year greenhouse experience;
• Knowledge of Argus control system;

• General knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook);
• Well organized and able to work independently with strong time management skills;
• Flexibility to work additional hours as required;
• Open attitude and willingness to share opinions and expertise to solve problems on a daily basis;
• Able to work in a professional and cooperative manner with co-workers and management.
