Position Overview

The Lead Hand – Packing plays a crucial role in ensuring that our harvested plant crops are packed efficiently and accurately to fulfill customer orders. This individual will be responsible for leading a team, ensuring proper packing practices, maintaining a fast-paced workflow, and meeting our high standards for quality and accuracy. This position will be located in the Westbrook Shipping Centre.

Responsibilities

• Works with and directs a team of packers to ensure that all plants are properly packed to order;
• Monitor the packing process, ensuring speed, accuracy, and adherence to safety guidelines;
• Organize product in cooler to ensure proper product rotation (first in-first out);
• Ensure that all plants are handled with care to maintain quality and prevent damage;
• Ensure that packing supplies and materials are always available and properly stocked;
• Conduct regular quality checks to ensure the packed orders meet company standards;
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of the packing area to ensure safety and efficiency;
• Train and mentor new team members, providing guidance on packing procedures and company standards;
• Collaborate with other departments to ensure smooth operations and timely order fulfillment;
• Prepare and print necessary documentation and paperwork for packing and shipping;
• Address minor maintenance issues promptly and escalate/report more complex repairs as needed;
• Operate End Rider Pallet Truck safely to transport materials and products within the warehouse;
• Receive product and ensure that the team has all necessary materials for processing ( carts, trays, pot covers, clippers, etc).;
• Work in a fast-paced environment, meeting daily packing quotas and sales order deadlines.

Qualifications

• 1-2 years experience in a packing or warehouse role, preferably in a greenhouse or agricultural setting;
• Understanding of greenhouse product flow an asset.

Skills & Competencies

• Strong attention to detail and ability to ensure quality standards are met consistently;
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize;
• Good leadership skills to train and direct a team;
• Good judgment/ability to make decisions;
• Effective verbal communication skills.
• General knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook;
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively with other team members;
• Flexibility to work overtime as necessary.

Working Conditions

• Ability to stand 8+ hours per day;
• Ability to lift to 50 lbs occasionally;
• Ability to push 50-100 lbs frequently;
• Working in a cool/ warm, humid indoor environment with moderate noise level and around moving machinery;
• Available to work after hours and rotating Saturdays as required (overtime hours are paid);
• Must wear CSA-approved steel toe safety shoes/boots;
