We are looking for a Structural Engineer/Engineer in Training (EIT) to play an integral role in the design, detailing and implementation of structural projects for our greenhouse systems. This role supports sales, installers and our manufacturing team in product improvements, customization and code requirements for effective quoting, design and construction. This is an exciting opportunity for an Engineer to participate in research, design and coordination of our greenhouse systems, and the testing of new products.
The ideal candidate will have strong verbal/written communication, and interpersonal skills to work with internal and external stakeholders at all levels. They will be able to multitask and have strong project and time management abilities to balance multiple priorities and deliverables. This position will predominantly work in our Beamsville office/manufacturing facility with some day or overnight travel to job sites.

Key Responsibilities:
Manage structural projects including liaison with sales team, customers, work closely with manufacturing and have hands-on involvement in product and component design;

Support development of processes and procedures for the effective management of design and engineering work within the company;

Prepare and manage detailed structural designs including specifications, drawings, and sketches;

Responsible for issuing of manufacturing work orders and BOM’s, facilitate costing and ‘make’ vs. ‘buy’;

Ensure design requirements are to local codes and standards and 3rd party certification process;

Develop computer aided analysis of structures using various analytical tools;

Support team to improve processes and procedures and implement 2D designs to 3D modelling, including standard component drawings updating weld symbols, materials and tolerancing;

Work with teams to integrate hydronic heating designs and other components into overall structure design;

Facilitate design for manufacturability and construction optimization;

Support in training and development of team members in new processes and tools;

Conduct periodic field review during construction projects;

Research and analyze data such as customer design proposals and specifications to determine feasibility of design and application.

Education and Experience:

A degree in civil engineering with a focus on structural design, or similar degree with equivalent experience, P.Eng. an asset (or P.Eng. eligible) ;

2-3 years direct design experience or equivalent;

Understanding of Canadian, US and local building codes including National Building Code of Canada, Occupational Health and Safety Acts, and the Construction Lien Acts;

Knowledge and understanding of relevant legislation, by-laws and codes affecting structural construction and development projects;

Strong competency in MS Office, AutoCAD, Solid Works and RISA;

Industry related experience, and working knowledge of hydronic heating and mechanical systems an asset;

Familiarity with ERP systems is an asset;
